A bit of history about me and Flodesk
I’ve been banging on about Flodesk for years. Pre covid I discovered this gem of a tool and I’ve not looked back. It’s not often this happens, but it’s a tool I recommend to all my clients and now, I’m sharing it with you.
Flodesk is an email marketing software but unlike some of the better known softwares it’s got a unique edge. They put user experience at the forefront. It’s easy to use, design friendly and uncluttered.
It’s got the same power as the others but they go about things differently.
I think that’s what I like about them; they know there is great power and intelligence in keeping things simple.
As business owners we don’t want to spend weeks setting something up and months trying to understand how to send a newsletter. Which for some is exactly why they gave up on email marketing in the first place.
Being design led means your emails, sign up forms and now checkouts (for digital products) can look beautiful and match your branding.
What gets me excited is how it helps support lead management.
We have all been told to nurture our audience haven’t we?
Flodesk really allows you the freedom to do that, remember the simplicity I told you about? I’m going to deep dive now into a specific example. (You might want to save this so you can refer back!)
Sending out a freebie (lead magnet) has never been easier.
Simply create an audience segment (group) within Flodesk. This can be anything you want to call it, I like the fact Flodesk allows you to colour code. Lets go with Innovate as the example here.
Now, setup your sign up form. By clicking forms and new form you can pick from a range of pre-made templates that you can edit or start from scratch.
I prefer the full page templates for mine.
Now you can edit that form to look and feel like you, using your images, fonts and colours. You’ll select what info you want to collect. I keep it simple with first name, last name and email but you have the ability to ask preferences too. Those preferences can save them to different segments if you want. Now you’ll link this form the the right segment.
Done!
Now it’s time to setup your email and automation.
This is the bit that actually takes the time, not because it’s hard but because you can be creative!
So we’re going to head to workflows and create a new one. You’re going to select your trigger (when someone is added to the segment you just made, in my case innovate.
Now you’re going to pick what happens, are you going to wait or send an email?
I’m going to send an email and just like before I can pick a template to edit or create my own. You’ll have the ability to add your digital download or discount code to the email.
When you’ve done all of the steps in the new nurture sequence you’re all set to publish and test the form privately.
Once you’ve tested and you’re happy. You are all set to copy the signup form share codes (embedded iFrame or direct URL) and share far and wide.
My favourite features:
- I love the fact I can load my fonts into Flodesk so my branding is consistent everywhere.
- I adore the pre-made layouts for emails and elements. I use these all the time for interesting and dynamic emails
- Custom URLs – when you share a form you can customise the name of it on the sharing link.
Some use cases I’ve had Flodesk help clients
Bev– Awaken
Bev is a burnout coach, she had a quiz her leads took in order for Bev to offer the right services and support to them based on their answers.
We had Flodesk forms in the results pages for those who needed a little support but not paid services, they then were added to her general segment and receive a monthly newsletter and guide from her.
Those who scored high were added into her CRM and offered her services. All without her having to do anything.
Suzanne– Link ID
Suzanne wanted to nurture a group of clients who had already signed up to a strategy evening in her property company to help educate and promote her masterclass programme.
She needed the content to be eye catching and engaging with videos, testimonials and be informative enough that they could sign up without additional questions.
We developed a range of workflows and multiple email sequences which were fun, bright and had purpose. She is now Flodesk’s biggest fan. As a creative she actually enjoys creating her content in the software and is getting a kick out of the fab reports!
Jem– Make Me Social
Jem is a marketing consultant I introduced to Flodesk; she fell in love and now uses nothing else for her email marketing and newsletter needs.
Oliver and Clare – VaccinationTrack
Oli and Clare had spent a lot of money and time working with a marketing agency who wasn’t nailing the email marketing for them with their niche audience in the NHS.
As an Operational Support client of mine I mentioned Flodesk and if it was worth doing some tests together to see if they liked the results.
Oliver drafted sent some promotional emails and we used Flodesk to send them to potential clients and received more engagement, better open rates and Oli found it less stressful in managing the messaging going out.
What does success look like?
We often hear about open rates and engagement. I’ve never had a tool that made this so easy to see, I’m not sure about the magic but open rates of 20-30% are deemed as unheard of and brilliant for most email marketing. With Flodesk my clients and I regularly hit 20-50% if not higher on certain emails.
I did an email deliverability comparison on some of my newsletters using Mailchimp and Flodesk not only had a better delivery rate it also had the better open rate too!
If you want to grow your audience Flodesk is great for being able to share forms and checkouts with your audience on different platforms.
